Drug & Alcohol Rehab, Detox & Treatment Resources

Substance abuse is a serious problem across the country. Millions of people are suffering from drug or alcohol addiction. Illegal substances like cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine are destroying the lives of millions of people and families. Legal substances, however, like alcohol and prescription medication are wreaking havoc as well.

Syracuse, New York is no exception to this rule. The number of Central New Yorkers, for example, that sought treatment for drug addiction in one facility went from 157 people in 2013 to over 320 people in 2016. The community of Syracuse combats substance misuse with rehabilitation facilities, detox and recovery meetings.

If you are struggling with a drug and/or alcohol addiction like millions of Americans, do not despair. Help is available for you if you are willing to accept it.

Finding Help & Recovery in Syracuse, NY

Alcohol & Drug Rehab Centers in Syracuse, New York

The first essential step in seeking treatment is admitting that you need help. One you have done that, it’s then time to formulate a plan for getting better. When you are formulating your plan, you will want to familiarize yourself with all of the treatment programs that are available to you. Treatment programs are available at three levels.

Residential Treatment Programs

In a residential treatment program, patients are fully immersed in rehabilitation as they live at the facility and have access to medical care 24 hours a day. Patients who require detoxification almost always enter into a residential treatment program after that.

Partial Hospitalization Programs

In a PHP (also sometimes called a “dayhab” program), patients participate in similar rehabilitation activities, but they do not live in the facility. They do still have access to medical care while they are in the facility, but at night, they are permitted to go home or to housing that is provided.

Outpatient Treatment Programs

In an outpatient treatment program, patients participate in the same activities as residential patients and PHP patients, but they do not live on campus, and they do not spend as much time at the facility. How can you determine which facility is best for you? Local facilities may have a lot to offer, but many people will choose a national treatment center.

Detox Centers

Detoxification can be a painful process if attempted alone, especially for patients coming off opiates, alcohol and benzodiazepines. If you try to detox on your own, you may be tempted to relapse when the withdrawal symptoms get severe. At a detox center, you have medical supervision throughout the whole detox process.

While detox centers can certainly be helpful, most people want to detox in a facility that will also allow them to start a treatment program.
