Jasper Drug & Alcohol Rehab, Detox & Treatment Resources

Did you know Jasper is the only municipality in the state of Indiana that has a supported arts council? The fund for arts in Jasper is considered as important to fund as the park board and street department. This idyllic town is the seat of the Bainbridge Township and sits prettily along the Patoka River. The city of Jasper has a lot to be proud of. The Jasper Community Arts Commission won the Governor’s Arts Award, once in 1987 and again in 2007. The city and the Community Arts Commission are the only institutions to have received this honor twice.

Despite Jasper’s town notoriety, there is a plague harming millions of Americans and their loved ones: alcohol and drug abuse. The Center for Disease Control considers substance abuse to be as dangerous to your health as heart disease and cancer.

Substance use disorder is a disease like any other. Just like cancer patients and diabetes patients need to seek treatment for their diseases, those who have substance use disorder also need to seek treatment. Addiction is a disease. There’s no shame in having a chronic condition like a substance use disorder. If you know you’re sick, help is here.

Alcohol & Drug Rehab Centers in Jasper, Indiana

There are so many options for recovery, it can be overwhelming to sort between the wheat and the chaff, but don’t worry. The main types of treatment program for substance abuse disorders can be narrowed down to three categories: residential, partial hospitalization and outpatient facilities. They differ by location. During a residential program you remain at the clinic, for a partial hospitalization program you remain at the clinic for a part of your recovery, while outpatient treatment programs offer no protected recovery time.

Jasper Residential Treatment Programs

Residential treatment programs are also known as retreat-based and inpatient facilities. Retreat-based clinics offer the most protection from outside influences and provide a protected space where you can heal in comfort.

Jasper Partial Hospitalization Programs

Partial hospitalization, retreat-based and outpatient programs share a similar approach to basic therapeutic treatments for patients with a substance use disorder like: detoxification, individual cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), group counselling, and aftercare preparation.

Jasper Outpatient Treatment Programs

Outpatient treatment programs are flexible, affordable and convenient methods of receiving care for this chronic condition. However it requires the patient to willfully abstain during the painful symptoms of withdrawal without the shield of a protected recovery site.

Jasper Drug & Alcohol Detox Centers

You’ve probably noticed while reading this that detoxification is always placed within a context regarding recovery and that substance misuse is referred to as a chronic condition. This is due to the fact you can go through the stage of detox without experiencing rehabilitation. Detoxification is a symptom of the illness, the root is much deeper and must be treated with a mixture of treatments. Substance use disorders have relapsed rates equivalent to asthma and hypertension. This means that recovery is monitored and managed for long periods of time.

A word of warning about detox centers. Avoid facilities which operate from a single method by simply removing the misused substances from your body. These clinics may satisfy the early stages of rehabilitation, but without the full program, recovery is unlikely.

The complexity of a substance use disorder is partially due to their highly subjective characteristics which may be comprised of genetic, environmental and traumatic experiential factors. Sobriety can be a big adjustment. Change requires that you learn new skills and find different ways to enjoy the world around you. Recovery isn’t impossible, but it will ask you to explore beyond your emotional, comfort level.

Recovery Meetings Near You in Jasper

You can’t stay in a retreat-based facility for the rest of your life, but you’re going to need support throughout your sojourn to sobriety. That’s where aftercare comes into focus. Alcoholics Anonymous and SMART Recovery meetings are self-sustained non-profit organizations which provide you with a resource and community dedicated to rehabilitation.

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) Meetings

Alcoholics Anonymous is where mutual-aid fellowships for substance abuse began in 1935 in Akron, Ohio. Dr. Bob Smith and Bill Wilson were addressing their own alcoholism. Since then, AA has blossomed as an iconic therapeutic community with 60,000 meetings held annually in over 100 nations across the earth. AA meetings are free, confidential and the only requirement is a desire to recover from the misuse of alcohol. AA has a spiritual foundation found in the 12 steps and 12 traditions, but refrains from affiliating with any specific faith or dogma.

Narcotics Anonymous (NA) Meetings

Narcotics Anonymous is a sibling organization to Alcoholics Anonymous where the same 12 steps, 12 traditions and spiritual perspective are all adhered to. You’ll find members who bravely exchange testimonials regarding their mistakes and victories. Recovery meetings offer a diverse community willing to support you throughout your rehabilitation and will even provide you with a sponsor. A sponsor is someone you can turn to and rely on at all points during your recuperation. Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous meetings are the cornerstones of many people’s rehabilitation. NA is free and confidential. All you need is a desire to stop misusing narcotics.

SMART Recovery Meetings

SMART Recovery is a new addition to the world of mutual-aid fellowships, but is quickly gaining popularity all over the world. SMART is an acronym for Self-Management and Addiction Recovery Training. SMART Recovery meeting doesn’t have sponsors, nor do members take turn presenting testimonials, while labels like alcoholic and addict are discouraged. Participants follow a four point program focusing on scientifically based research in the management of emotions, thoughts and behaviors. The goal of SMART Recovery is for the member to find a life-style balance. If you’re interested in attending a SMART Recovery meeting it is advisable to contact the facilitator prior to the meet time.

Al-Anon and Nar-Anon Meetings

Witnessing a loved one’s substance use disorder progress can be emotionally exhausting and difficult to understand. Al-Anon and Nar-Anon meetings are a natural growth to the AA and NA organization. Al-Anon is for friends and family of people who misuse alcohol, while Nar-Anon is geared toward those who are struggling with their loved one’s narcotics use disorder. Both groups take the 12 steps and respect the 12 traditions which illustrates the spiritual nature of the fellowships. The only requirement to attend either meeting is a desire to help yourself cope with your family member’s substance use disorder.

These sanctuaries are tucked away all around the United States and help prepare you for the challenges and victories you may experience during your rehabilitation. Regardless of what type of treatment you enroll in, remember success isn’t a straight line to wellness. Success is the ability to continue to try to recover despite what life may throw at you.
