Costa Mesa Drug & Alcohol Rehab, Detox & Treatment Resources
Nestled midway between San Diego and Los Angeles, the sunny suburban city of Costa Mesa offers a fabulous quality of life just minutes from the Pacific coastline and some of California’s most beautiful beaches. Today, the city is part of swanky Orange County, but it began as a semi-rural farming community back in 1953, when it was first incorporated. It’s known for its amazing fashion and shopping, as well as a vibrant arts and cultural scene.
Despite its glitz and glamour, even a lovely suburban city like Costa Mesa isn’t immune to drug and alcohol problems. Drug and alcohol abuse can affect anyone from any demographic and in any city across the country. In fact, across the United States, drug and alcohol misuse costs more than $500 billion every year in costs related to health care, crime and the loss of productivity at work, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
Finding Help in Costa Mesa
Costa Mesa Alcohol Rehab Centers and Drug Centers
Once you’ve made the first step of recognizing that you need help with your drug or alcohol addiction, it’s time to choose the type of program that will best meet your needs. In some cases, patients start with a residential treatment program before stepping down to a partial hospitalization program, outpatient program and recovery meetings. In other circumstances, intensive detox may be necessary before entering a recovery program.
When you need 24-hour care, residential treatment programs are the optimal choice. Whether you choose a long-term program that lasts six to 12 months or a short-term program lasting up to six weeks, these programs offer intensive treatment for drug addiction or alcohol dependence. In many cases, residents also have access to doctors and psychiatrists who can treat co-occurring disorders like mental health issues and eating disorders.
This middle-of-the-road type of treatment program is more intensive than an outpatient program, but less intensive than residential programs. It mixes outpatient counseling with medical services. Partial hospitalization programs (PHP) typically involve staying at the hospital up to 20 hours every week, but not overnight. Patients in this type of program have access to nurses and doctors for any care issues they may have, such as medically supervised withdrawal. Many patients go into a PHP after completing a residential program.
Like residential programs, outpatient rehab varies in the length and intensity of the services that you receive. This type of treatment program is better suited for someone who has an extensive support system in place since they don’t require overnight stays or 24-hour care and supervision.
Before you decide on the type of drug or alcohol treatment facilities treatment program, consider all the important factors so that you choose the one that best meets your situation. Take into account the length of treatment, the setting and the level of medical care provided. Other important considerations include how long you’ve been misusing, and what substance you are misusing.
Detox Centers
Detox centers programs are uniquely designed to help manage the withdrawal symptoms associated with stopping the use of drugs or alcohol. Many patients require medical monitoring and care. In severe cases, you may need emergency treatment during the medical detox process. Depending on the severity of your addiction, you can choose between outpatient and inpatient detox centers.
Recovery Meetings Near You
Whether you begin your recovery in a full-service recovery center or in another detox center or inpatient program, recovery meetings are a crucial part of your aftercare. In Costa Mesa and in nearby cities, there are a variety of options available. From AA and NA to SMART Recovery and Al-Anon or Nar-Anon, you can find the recovery meetings that meet your needs.
Alcoholics Anonymous, or AA, as it’s also known, offers a fellowship of people who have an addiction to alcohol and a desire to do something about it. AA meetings are open to those struggling with alcohol misuse, as well as non-alcoholics struggling with drug misuse. The experience of sharing their struggles and one-on-one sponsorship, along with the program’s 12 steps, help members create fulfilling lives free from alcohol and drug use.

The goal is to teach members about self-empowerment while giving them the tools and techniques they need to make self-directed change, recover from addiction and lead full, happy lives. The program’s four points cover topics like motivation, dealing with urges, coping with feelings and thoughts and living life in a balanced way.
