Fort Wayne Drug & Alcohol Rehab, Detox & Treatment Resources

A long time ago, Fort Wayne was the Capital of the Algonquin and Miami tribes. The Native Americans called it Kekionga. In 1794, President George Washington ordered the army to take territory in Indiana. Little Turtle and the Miami Confederacy defeated the U.S. army in the first and second battles, but in August of 1794 the Native Americans fell at Fallen Timbers. A couple centuries later, Fort Wayne is the seat of Allen County and a proud member of the Rust Belt. Fort Wayne has been awarded the All-America City Award in 1982, 1998 and 2009. The U.S. Conference of Mayors honored the city with an Outstanding Achievement City Livability Award in 1999.

Despite the rich history and success of Fort Wayne, Indiana there is a nefarious plague touching the lives of many Americans. The community of this All-American City isn’t immune from the harm of alcohol and drug abuse.

Substance abuse is an epidemic that is spreading all across the country of America, the state of Indiana and even the town of Fort Wayne. Those who are suffering from drug and alcohol addiction are able to find help for their disease, however, if they are willing to reach out for it.

Fort Wayne is among the 144 Americans who lose their lives every day to an accidental drug overdose. The Center for Disease Control estimates that there are 3000 fatalities every three weeks in the United States. If you’re battling against a substance use disorder and are ready to embrace recovery, help is here.

Alcohol & Drug Rehab Centers in Fort Wayne, Indiana

You will face many challenges along the path to recovery. The first battle was acknowledging your illness and your willingness to seek treatment. The next is trying to discern between the oversaturation of recovery facilities and defining which therapy approach will help you the most.

There are three, primary types of treatment and can be categorized into the following definitions: residential, partial hospitalization and outpatient treatment programs. These primary programs will all involve detoxification, individual cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), group counselling and preparation for aftercare. Now let’s discuss how the programs are different.

Fort Wayne Residential Treatment Programs

Residential treatment programs have several monikers including retreat-based and inpatient programs. During a retreat-based program you’ll live at the facility throughout an agreed upon amount of time which may depend on you and the progress you make while enrolled in an inpatient facility. Upon admittance a medical and psychiatric team will evaluate and possibly prescribe a medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to help you cope with the physical symptoms of withdrawal.

Fort Wayne Partial Hospitalization Programs

Partial hospitalization clinics perform many of the same functions as residential treatment programs, the difference being, typically after detoxification you will return living at home and commute to the facility for all prescribed therapies daily.

Fort Wayne Outpatient Treatment Programs

Outpatient treatment programs are flexible and an invaluable resource for individuals who cannot commit to retreat-based or partial hospitalization. This treatment approach shares many characteristics with residential and partial hospitalization clinics but lack a protected environment. This can lengthen the necessary time for recovery.

Fort Wayne Drug & Alcohol Detox Centers

Detoxification is often wrongly synonymous with recovery. It’s possible for your body to be free from misused substances and still suffer from a substance use disorder. This is because you cannot treat the symptoms and expect the illness to disappear.

Substance misuse is a complicated disease with subjective roots in your heredity and the immediate environment you’re in, access to misuse substances, trauma and individual circumstances. An illness this complex takes patience, time and the ability to treat yourself with gentleness.

There are institutions, some known as detox centers that are more interested in what’s in your wallet than what comprises your recovery. A telltale aspect to identify a clinic to be cautious of is any place that suggests detoxification as the only necessary stage in recovery. This is false. It’s like if simply taking prescription opioids cures back pain, it doesn’t cure anything. The opioid masks the pain and like this pain (your substance use disorder) is still there.

A substance use disorder can’t be cured, but can be evaluated and managed through changed emotions, thoughts and behaviors. You cannot learn all these skills simply through detox. You’ll have to learn and practice many tools before you can master control over your condition.

Recovery Meetings Near You in Fort Wayne

You can’t stay in the protection of a residential treatment program for the rest of your life. However, you can always rely on non-profit, mutual-aid fellowships like SMART Recovery and Narcotics Anonymous. These meetings are a cornerstone for millions of people who are successfully managing their illness while living healthy, productive lives.

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) Meetings

Alcoholics Anonymous has humble beginnings in Akron, Ohio in 1935. Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob Smith decided they needed to do something about their destructive relationship to alcohol. Since the inception of Alcoholics Anonymous, the mutual-aid fellowship has grown to host over 60,000 meetings annually in over 130 different nations around the world. Alcoholics Anonymous is a spiritually motivated group that asks participants to take the 12 steps to recovery while respecting the 12 traditions of the program. The spiritual aspect of AA purposefully remains separate from any religion or dogma to insure people from all walks of life feel welcome.

SMART Recovery operates with a scientific and rational foundation instead of a spiritual one. There aren’t any sponsors or testimonials in SMART Recovery meetings. Participants are discouraged from using labels like alcoholic or addict and are invited to participate in open, frank discussions concerning the challenges and victories experienced throughout rehabilitation. SMART Recovery focuses on helping you achieve a life-style balance that helps you sustain sobriety through the control of impulses and the reframing of emotions, thoughts and behaviors. If you’re interested in a SMART Recovery meeting get in touch with the group’s facilitator to insure the group is accepting new members.

It may not seem like it at first, but travelling away from home to a residential treatment program is a precious gift. Receiving the time, space and resources necessary for this transformation are kind of like a shortcut to rehabilitation. The concentrated healing is focused on your well-being and it cannot be troubled by day to day stresses, risking interactions with enabling people or being tempted by the availability of your chosen chemical. If you can admit your-self into a retreat-based clinic, don’t hesitate it might save your life.
